Choksi was arrested in Belgium&#8217;s Antwerp on Saturday based on a formal request from the Indian government. <\/p>\n<p><!--\/dynamic_link.cms?msid=107107653&subsecid=1715249553&pos=toppotime:315--> &#8220;Based on our extradition request, he was arrested. We are working closely with the Belgium side on his extradition so that he can face trial in the country,&#8221; External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. <\/p>\n<p> Choksi is wanted by Indian probe agencies in connection with a Rs 13,500-crore <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/bank-loan-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bank loan fraud<\/a> case. <\/p>\n<p> The fugitive diamantaire and his nephew Nirav Modi allegedly siphoned off Rs 13,500 crore of public money from the state-run <a rel=\"dofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/punjab-national-bank\/stocks\/companyid-11585.cms\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" target=\"_blank\">Punjab National Bank<\/a> (PNB) using fraudulent letters of undertaking. <\/p>\n<p>Nirav Modi, lodged in a London jail, is contesting his extradition to India after repeated denial of his bail by courts. <\/p>\n<div style=\"display:none;\" data-ga-impression=\"Events_widget_$pagename#Impression#url\" class=\"liveEventMain_widget custom_ad\">\n<div class=\"topContain\">\n<div class=\"imgBox\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"logoTitle\">Live Events<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/live_events_widget.cms?pagename=articlepotime:1--><br \/> In May 2021, Choksi went missing from Antigua but was traced and returned to it later.
