The protest is likely to continue indefinitely unless the issue is resolved.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/dynamic_link.cms?msid=107107653&subsecid=1715249553&pos=toppotime:74--> Bringing back memories of the RG Kar protests, SSC candidates have been sitting on the road since morning and have vowed to continue their agitation.<\/p>\n<p> The candidates demanded the immediate release of the list, warning that they would not vacate the protest site at the SSC Bhawan in Salt Lake unless their demands are met.<\/p>\n<p> The large-scale protest erupted after the Commission failed to release the list of eligible and ineligible candidates by the April 21 deadline. A major scuffle broke out in front of the SSC Bhawan on Monday, following the Commission\u2019s failure to meet this commitment.<\/p>\n<p>On April 11, the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) had assured that it would publish the list on April 21, after taking legal advice. This decision followed a meeting with West Bengal Education Minister <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/bratya-basu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bratya Basu<\/a> and the SSC Chairman.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display:none;\" data-ga-impression=\"Events_widget_$pagename#Impression#url\" class=\"liveEventMain_widget custom_ad\">\n<div class=\"topContain\">\n<div class=\"imgBox\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"logoTitle\">Live Events<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/live_events_widget.cms?pagename=articlepotime:1--><br \/> A 13-member delegation of candidates met the SSC Chairman, but no proper resolution could be reached. \u201cWe will not move an inch and will stay put unless the list is released,\u201d said one candidate. The protestors also demanded the resignation of Education Minister Bratya Basu and the SSC Chairman. A scuffle broke out in the Salt Lake area when candidates tried to break through police barricades. Protestors gheraoed the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) Bhawan.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the area resembled a fortress, with heavy police deployment, including personnel armed with batons and tear gas, and a three-layer barricade erected in front of the gate.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing protests follow a Supreme Court verdict that cancelled around 26,000 jobs in connection with the <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/ssc-recruitment-scam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SSC recruitment scam<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>High Court Development<\/strong><br \/>Meanwhile, acting on a contempt-of-court petition filed against the West Bengal government and WBSSC for not implementing the apex court\u2019s order, the Calcutta High Court\u2019s division bench comprising Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi directed both the state government and the Commission to submit their explanations within a day.<\/p>\n<p>The next hearing is scheduled for April 23.
