Hindi cinema has been going through a lull phase for some time now. With less footfall and more flops than hits, Bollywood films are constantly being compared with regional movies which are performing better at the box office. In a recent interview, actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan addressed the current state of the Hindi film industry.<\/p>\n

In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir acknowledged the scope for improvement but firmly asserted that the quality of Hindi cinema is on par with other film industries. The actor said, \u201cI am not saying that we can\u2019t be better filmmakers. Certainly, I think there is a lot of scope for us to improve as filmmakers and learn from various industries. So, there is definitely scope for that. Having said that, is the quality of filmmaking any different across the country?\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIf you look at the quality of films that we\u2019ve been making, talking about the 70s and 80s. When I came in 1988, the bulk of films being made at that time was the low, according to me. Since then, we have improved if you ask me. After 90s, when 2000 came in, audiences changed. They are much more open and want to see different kind of material.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aamir Khan<\/a> also stated that ups and downs are a part of this profession and we should appreciate the improvements that have happened in the past few years. \u201cEarlier, mainstream was a very narrow path to tread on. But now, mainstream has become much more expansive, different kinds of films are doing well. I think these are good things, these aren\u2019t bad things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Aamir continued, \u201cWhile there is scope for improvement, I think we have been improving slowly. There are ups and downs in every field. We are certainly going through a low, there\u2019s no doubt about it. But, that happens in every field, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s something new that\u2019s happening. These are cycles.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked what he can do to improve the current scenario, Aamir shared, \u201cI would just like to stick to what I am doing and tell the stories that I believe in. That\u2019s what I know how to do. I am not someone who has any grand opinions about myself that I can change the way things are. I\u2019ve never had that opinion about myself. Its very difficult to make a film. Main ek film hi ache se bana lu vo hi bahut badi baat hai.\u201d<\/p>\n
