Former politician Priya Dutt, the daughter of late actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis, spoke about her brother Sanjay Dutt\u2019s biopic Sanju<\/a><\/strong>, directed by Rajkumar Hirani<\/a><\/strong>. She admitted in an interview that she wasn\u2019t particularly impressed by it, and was underwhelmed by its depiction of her parents. She was also confused about why Hirani gave so much importance to Vicky Kaushal\u2019s character, who she said was a composite of many different people. Priya acknowledged Ranbir Kapoor\u2019s central performance, but described the film itself as a \u2018caricature\u2019.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, she agreed that her mother had very little to do in the movie, and that one scene doesn\u2019t do her contributions to Sanjay\u2019s life justice. \u201cI also felt that the film didn\u2019t do justice to both my mom and my father. There was a lot that could\u2019ve worked; there was a lot. Even the relationship between the father and the son, a lot (more) could have been done,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Asked if she ever felt like picking up the phone and calling Hirani with her complaints, Priya said, \u201cI was (tempted to), but I think they had a different concept in mind. Their focus was just Sanju, which I get, but it became a bit of a caricature.\u201d Priya laughed when the topic of Vicky Kaushal\u2019s character came up, and said that it was amalgamation of several different friends in Sanjay\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Asked if she shared her honest feedback with Sanjay, she said, \u201cYes, I did. I said, \u2018It\u2019s not what I expected it to be\u2019.\u201d According to Priya, Sanjay seemed to want to let it go. She also revealed that he wasn\u2019t consulted at every stage of production. \u201cI loved Ranbir in it, I thought he played the part very well. But it was just an entertaining film, nothing like a biopic. The intensity was missing.\u201d<\/p>\n

That being said, Priya said that her favourite film of Sanjay\u2019s career is the first Munna Bhai, directed by Hirani. The film initiated a comeback for the actor after a period of great difficulty. She said that she was on set the first day of production, when a scene featuring both Sanjay and their father was being shot. Before Animal, Sanju was the highest-grossing film of Ranbir Kapoor\u2019s career; it made over Rs 500 crore worldwide. Hirani last directed the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki, which under-performed at the box office<\/a><\/strong> and earned mixed reviews.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
