Pakistan has given its first reaction to he Pahalgam terror attack<\/a>, denying any involvement in the ghastly act. Pakistani Defence Minister and senior leader of ruling PML-N party Khawaja Asif<\/a> sought to blame violence in Jammu and Kashmir<\/a> on a \u201crevolution\u201d and \u201chome-grown\u201d forces within the union territory.<\/p>\n

As many as 28 people were killed and dozens were injured when terrorists opened fire at tourists at Baisaran meadow<\/a> near Pahalgam<\/a> on Tuesday. The attack forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cut short a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and return home and chair a high level meeting.<\/p>\n

There has been no official comment from the Indian side of blaming Pakistan-based terrorists for the attack. However, Asif distanced his country from the incident while speaking to Pakistani news channel Live 92. There was also no immediate response from Indian officials to Asif\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cPakistan has no connection with this. This is all home-grown, there are revolutions in different so-called states against India, not one, not two, but dozens, from Nagaland to Kashmir, in the south, in Chattisgarh, in Manipur. In all these places, there are revolutions against the Indian government,\u201d Asif claimed.<\/p>\n

Most of the places Asif mentioned have had insurgent movements in past decades, but such activities have largely been controlled by Indian authorities in most states.\u201cThese are home-grown, the people are asking for their rights. Hindutva forces are exploiting the people, repressing minorities and exploiting Christians and Buddhists. They are being killed, this is a revolution against that, it is because of this that such activities are happening there,\u201d Asif contended.
\u201cThere is absolutely no connection to us [in this incident]. We don\u2019t support terrorism anywhere under any circumstances and innocent people should not be the target anywhere in any local conflicts,\u201d he said.\u201cThere can be no doubt about it that our national policy doesn\u2019t allow the targeting of non-combatants but if the army or police are committing atrocities anywhere in India against people asking for their rights \u2013 people who don\u2019t have even fundamental rights, if they are revolting and taking up arms \u2013 then it is easy to blame Pakistan,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Asif further said that Islamabad has provided evidence on many occasions of India\u2019s alleged complicity in sponsoring unrest within Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have evidence gathered almost daily that we have given \u2013 not once but on many occasions \u2013 that India is sponsoring unrest in Balochistan and other areas [of Pakistan]. Whether they are doing it sitting in Afghanistan or elsewhere, there is a long history of India sponsoring unrest in Pakistan,\u201d he said.
