After being blocked for three days due to multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains and cloudbursts, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been partially reopened for one-way traffic<\/a>, an official spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday. The highway\u2014Kashmir\u2019s only all-weather road link to the rest of the country\u2014had been rendered impassable since early Sunday.<\/p>\n

To aid stranded passengers amid the ongoing turmoil following the Pahalgam terror attack<\/a>, a special train service<\/a> from SMVD Katra to New Delhi has also been launched. The move comes as part of broader efforts to ensure the safe return of tourists, many of whom have begun leaving the valley in large numbers.<\/p>\n

“The national highway at Ramban<\/a> is now functional on a one-way basis,” said the spokesperson. “Additionally, a special train has been introduced from Katra to New Delhi to accommodate the extra rush of outbound passengers.”<\/p>\n

Authorities continue to urge travelers to follow guidelines and cooperate with officials to ensure a smooth and safe exit from the region.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed sorrow over the sight of departing tourists. In a post on X, he wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s heartbreaking to see the exodus of our guests from the valley after yesterday\u2019s tragic terror attack in Pahalgam. But at the same time, we totally understand why people would want to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also acknowledged the government\u2019s swift response, noting: \u201cWhile DGCA and the Ministry of Civil Aviation are working to organize extra flights, NH-44 between Srinagar<\/a> and Jammu has now reopened for one-way traffic.\u201dThe administration remains on high alert, working round the clock to facilitate the safe departure of tourists and restore calm in the wake of the tragedy.(With inputs from PTI)<\/em>
