Assam police have arrested several people for their pro-Pakistan stance in social media in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack<\/a>.Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma<\/a> stated in X, \u201cAssam will not tolerate any individual who, directly or indirectly, supports or defends Pakistan in connection with the heinous attack in Pahalgam. So far, the following individuals have been arrested by @assampolice for directly or indirectly promoting the cause of Pakistan in Social media Hailakandi \u2013 Md. Jabir Hussain , Silchar \u2013 Md. A.K. Bahauddin, Md. Javed Mazumder, Morigaon \u2013 Md. Mahahar Mia @ Md. Mujihirul Islam, Nagaon \u2013 Md. Aminul Islam, Sivasagar \u2013 Md. Sahil Ali. Further arrests are underway as part of our ongoing crackdown.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another post in X Sarma stated, \u201cAs part of its intensified crackdown on individuals promoting anti-national sentiments<\/a>, the @assampolice has made two additional arrests: Barpeta: Md. Jarif Ali (25), also known as Sharif Sing, Biswanath: Anil Bania, District Secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Parishad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sarma on Thursday said,\u201d Assam will take the strongest possible action against anyone who dares to defend–directly or indirectly–the horrific, Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Pahalgam.\u201d<\/p>\n

All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam who was arrested by Assam police following his controversial remark on Pahalgam terror attack was sent to four day police custody. He had been taken to the Nagaon police station.<\/p>\n

Islam was produced before a district court; police had sought seven-day remand however court granted four-day police custody.Aminul Islam, an MLA of the opposition party AIUDF, claimed the suicide bombing of a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pulwama in February 2019, and the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam were “conspiracies by the government”.The Assam Police filed a case suo motu against Islam after a video of his comment went viral on social media. Sarma said the AIUDF MLA faces treason charges.
