Jammu and Kashmir<\/a> Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha<\/a> has called for a one-day special session of the Legislative Assembly on April 28 to address the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack<\/a>. The session will focus on the challenges and issues arising from the attack on April 22, which has left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead. The J&K Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah<\/a>, recommended the special session.To manage the situation following the attack, Abdullah has dispatched cabinet ministers to various cities to ensure the safety of Kashmiri residents, including students and businessmen, facing threats from right-wing groups. The ministers are tasked with coordinating efforts with local governments to protect the well-being of J&K residents.<\/p>\n

In addition, Abdullah reiterated his opposition to the Indus Waters Treaty<\/a> (IWT) with Pakistan, which the Indian government has suspended in response to the attack. Omar called the IWT “unfair” to the people of J&K.<\/p>\n

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the Pahalgam attack during a sermon, urging solidarity with the victims and condemning the communal rhetoric that has increased vulnerability for Kashmiris across India.<\/p>\n

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi<\/a>, visiting Kashmir, condemned the attack as an attempt to divide the nation and emphasised the importance of national unity in defeating terrorism. Gandhi also expressed support for the J&K government’s efforts and visited the injured at the army hospital, assuring them of the nation’s solidarity.<\/p>\n
