Like other neighbours, we consider them our foremost priority,\u201d Araghchi wrote. These included the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, halting cross-border trade via the Attari checkpoint, downgrading diplomatic ties, and suspending visas for Pakistani nationals, including those under the SAARC framework. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved these steps in response to what India sees as Pakistan\u2019s continued support for <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/cross-border-terrorism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cross-border terrorism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the matter during a rally in Bihar\u2019s Madhubani. He said, \u201cFriends, today from the soil of Bihar, I say to the whole world India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India\u2019s spirit will never be broken by terrorism. Terrorism will not go unpunished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan, denying involvement in the Pahalgam incident, retaliated with its own set of measures. It shut down the Wagah border crossing, suspended all SAARC visas for Indian nationals, halted trade\u2014including indirect routes\u2014and closed its airspace to Indian carriers. Islamabad also announced the suspension of the Simla Agreement, a key bilateral accord signed in 1972. On the same day as Iran\u2019s offer, Saudi Arabia\u2019s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held separate phone calls with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan\u2019s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.<\/p>\n<p>Jaishankar shared the update on X, \u201cHad a telecon with Foreign Minister @FaisalbinFarhan of Saudi Arabia. Dar reportedly warned against further escalation and said that Pakistan would \u201crespond firmly to any aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations also weighed in. According to sources, talks are ongoing to ensure the soldier\u2019s safe return.<\/p>\n<p>The Pahalgam attack, its cross-border implications, and the cascade of retaliatory steps have heightened fears of <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/military-escalation-in-south-asia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military escalation in South Asia<\/a>.
