For years, Aamir Khan has expressed his desire to adapt the Mahabharata for the big screen<\/a><\/strong>, but he was apprehensive about taking on such a huge responsibility. <\/span>But it seems like he is finally ready. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir confirmed that he\u2019s now gearing up to bring Mahabharata to the big screen \u2014 and work is set to begin this year. \u201cIt is one of my biggest ambitions,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cIt will take a while because the writing process will take a few years.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Though tight-lipped about whether he will act in the series himself, Aamir clarified that his current focus is on producing the epic. Casting decisions, he said, would be based entirely on who is \u201cmost appropriate\u201d for the parts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ambitious scale of the project, he said, may require multiple directors. Aamir revealed that he\u2019s considering a Lord of the Rings-style approach \u2014 shooting simultaneously across different units to bring the saga alive in a shorter timeline. \u201cIt\u2019s too early to say, but we might need multiple directors. If we have to plan it in a certain timeline\u2026 because if you do one after another, it will take very long. Like they did in Lord of the Rings. So something like that \u2014 in that case, you will need more than one director,\u201d he said.

Talks about Aamir\u2019s Mahabharata adaptation first emerged in 2018, with reports suggesting a staggering budget<\/a> of over \u20b91,000 crore. While Aamir refrained from revealing further details, it\u2019s evident that the project is deeply personal to him \u2014 so much so that he once stepped away from another big-budget film to dedicate himself entirely to this epic adaptation.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Back in 2022, during the promotions of Laal Singh Chaddha<\/a><\/strong>, Aamir had admitted his reservations. \u201cWhen you are making a film on Mahabharata, you are not just making a film. You are performing a yagya<\/a><\/strong>. It is not just a film, it is much more. And, that is why I am not ready for it yet. I am scared of bringing it out. Mahabharata will never let you down, but you may let down Mahabharata,\u201d he told Galatta Plus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on the acting front, Aamir is set to return in Sitaare Zameen Par<\/a><\/strong>, a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, scheduled for release in the summer of 2025. The actor recently teased his character in the film as \u201crude and politically incorrect<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d signaling an entirely different flavour from his past roles.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
