The bombing and demolition of houses of militants have damaged several other structures triggering widespread reaction from political parties, who have said that ‘Kashmiris should not be given collective punishment’. It would ‘further alienate the population’. Houses of at least eight militants have been demolished over the past two days in the wake of the Pahalgam attack<\/a> that killed 26 people, including a local ponywala.“They could have got a JCB to demolish Ahsan’s house, what was the sin of 10-15 other houses damaged beyond repair and 50 more whose windows and doors were shattered with the two blasts on Friday night,” said Ashiq Hussain of Murran in Pulwama, where forces demolished the house of Ahsan ul Haq Sheikh, an active militant. The blasts have damaged half a dozen houses here, including a newly-constructed house of Abdul Rashid Thokar, where a marriage was scheduled on May 10. “Everything we had got for the marriage is buried here. What was our fault?” said Ali Muhammad Thokar.<\/p>\n

“People of Kashmir have come out openly against terrorism…It’s time to build on this support and avoid any misplaced action that alienates people,” said J&K CM Omar Abdullah, adding, “Punish the guilty, show them no mercy but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage.”<\/p>\n

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of Hurriyat said: “I urge authorities, in seeking justice for the innocent victims, not to punish innocent Kashmiri families.” Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the Centre must tread with caution and carefully distinguish between terrorists and civilians following the recent Pahalgam attack. <\/p><\/div>\n
