{"id":292146,"date":"2025-04-28T08:28:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T08:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/28\/pay-rise-recommendations-will-be-given-careful-consideration-says-minister-amid-strike-threat\/"},"modified":"2025-04-28T08:28:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T08:28:10","slug":"pay-rise-recommendations-will-be-given-careful-consideration-says-minister-amid-strike-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/28\/pay-rise-recommendations-will-be-given-careful-consideration-says-minister-amid-strike-threat\/","title":{"rendered":"Pay rise recommendations will be given &#8216;careful consideration&#8217;, says minister amid strike threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/03\/768x432\/skynews-neu-teachers-strike_6075233.jpg?20250428092309&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Pay rise recommendations will be given &#8216;careful consideration&#8217;, says minister amid strike threat\" title=\"Pay rise recommendations will be given &#8216;careful consideration&#8217;, says minister amid strike threat\" \/><\/div><p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component-name=\"ui-article-body\" data-highlight-intro=\"true\">\n<p>The government will give recommendations for public sector pay rises &#8220;very careful consideration&#8221;, a minister has said &#8211; but he urged trade unions to &#8220;recognise the reality of the financial position&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Kinnock said the government had now received the recommendations of the independent review body that advises ministers on public sector pay.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Times, teachers and NHS workers in England have been told to expect a pay rise of close to 4% and 3%, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The figures are higher than the 2.8% the government has offered &#8211; meaning it must now decide whether to increase its offer in line with the pay review bodies, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/ministers-expected-to-approve-pay-rises-for-all-public-sector-workers-sky-news-understands-13185193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as it did last year.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Wilfred Frost on Sky News Breakfast, Mr Kinnock, the care minister, urged trade unions to &#8220;engage constructively with us&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve received the recommendation of the pay review body and we will give that very careful consideration,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government was &#8220;all about putting more money into the pockets of working people&#8221;, citing how the junior doctors&#8217; strike was resolved when they <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/junior-doctors-vote-to-accept-pay-deal-13216267\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accepted a government pay offer<\/a><\/strong> worth an extra 22.3% on average over two years.<\/p>\n<p>But he added: &#8220;We also have to ensure that we are balancing the books, and we&#8217;ve got to work &#8211; in terms of public sector pay &#8211; within fiscal constraints.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So of course we will give these recommendations careful consideration, but I would, of course, also urge our colleagues in the trade union movement to engage constructively with us and recognise the reality of the financial position.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"ui-media-caption\">\n        <span class=\"u-hide-visually\">Image:<\/span><br \/>\n        <span class=\"ui-media-caption__caption-text\">Striking members of the National Education Union (NEU) last year.
