In addition to Portugal, it said, \u201cThe blackout also affected regions of Spain and France, due to faults in very high voltage lines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">E-Redes said that the outage was widespread across Spain, with outages in Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon, Navarre, the Basque Country, Castile and Le\u00f3n, Extremadura and Murcia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In France, the Portuguese energy supplier said, \u201cthe Basque Coast and the Burgundy region also experienced power cuts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Spain\u2019s national power company, Red El\u00e9ctricia, said in a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RedElectricaREE\/status\/1916818043235164267\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">post on X<\/a> that it had restored some power in the north and south of the peninsula.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The cause of the outages was not immediately clear. But the effects of the disruption were felt in cities across the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In Murcia, a city in southeastern Spain, some restaurants stopped serving food and churches closed their doors. People gathered in the streets, looking on their phones to try to figure out what had happened and why.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In the Spanish capital, matches for the Madrid Open tennis tournament were suspended, the <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/news\/madrid-2025-monday-power-cut\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">ATP Tour said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Renfe, the national rail company in Spain, wrote in a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Renfe\/status\/1916810527776362880\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">post on X<\/a> that \u201cat 12:30 p.m., the entire National Electricity Grid was cut off,\u201d adding that trains had stopped operating at all stations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In Valencia, the city\u2019s local train service said that traffic had been disrupted throughout its entire network. \u201cThe extent and duration of the outage are unknown,\u201d the service said in a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/metrovalencia\/status\/1916806414149755080\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">post on X<\/a>. \u201cWe will continue to keep you updated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">EasyJet, the airline, told passengers that \u201cSpanish airports are currently experiencing ongoing power outages affecting multiple essentials systems and airport infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The airline said it expected delays and described the disruption as \u201cextraordinary and outside of our control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\"><em class=\"css-2fg4z9 e1gzwzxm0\">This is a developing story.
