Filmmaker Sriram Raghavan has built an impeccable reputation with films like <\/span>Johnny Gaddaar<\/span>, <\/span>Ek Hasina Thi<\/span>, <\/span>Badlapur<\/span>, and <\/span>Andhadhun<\/span>. Yet, there are a few movies he didn\u2019t make that fans often wonder how he might have reimagined \u2014 one of them being Abbas-Mustan\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> <\/span>Baazigar, the film that made Shah Rukh Khan an overnight star. <\/span>In a recent conversation with <\/span>Pinkvilla<\/span>, Sriram revealed that during his struggling days, he had unknowingly begun adapting the same story that would eventually become <\/span>Baazigar<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYe toh superb kahaani hai\u2026 ye toh mereko banana hai (This is such a superb story\u2026 I have to make this),\u201d he remembered thinking after reading the novel. \u201cAt that time I didn\u2019t even think about rights or anything. It felt like I had found a great story that I needed to make.\u201d Passionately, Sriram began writing his version. But when he narrated it to veteran actor Tinnu Anand, he was surprised. \u201cWhile I was narrating to him, he looked at me and told me the film you are telling me boss is getting made right now\u2026 and I\u2019m acting in it.\u201d That film was <\/span>Baazigar<\/span>, adapted from the novel <\/span>A Kiss Before Dying<\/span>, which Abbas-Mustan and Venus Films were already making.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sriram Raghavan remembers watching <\/span>Baazigar<\/span> at Mumbai<\/a>\u2019s Anupam theatre: \u201cWhen it came out I watched it in Anupam, and the entire public went electric\u2026 and I was sitting quietly.\u201d Sriram added that he would have taken the story in a completely different direction, sticking closer to the original novel: A story about a psychopath with no revenge track, where he kills three girls in his pursuit to become a millionaire. <\/span>He also recalled meeting Shah Rukh Khan and the directors. \u201cI remember meeting Shah Rukh and Abbas-Mustan also\u2026 telling them this happened\u2026\u201d he said laughingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, he pitched the story to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. \u201cI told him you produce it\u2026 But he said iss mein gaane nahi hai\u2026 aur yeh nahi woh nahi\u2026 and make it masaledar (this doesn\u2019t have songs\u2026 this and that is missing\u2026 make it more spicy),\u201d which Sriram disagreed with.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
