For most of us, Hera Pheri has always been the quintessential cult comedy. It has been an iconic laugh riot that defined a generation\u2019s sense of humour. But for Suniel Shetty, the film is much more than just comedy \u2014 it\u2019s patriotic cinema. At the trailer launch of Kesari Veer, a period action film marking the return of Sooraj Pancholi<\/a><\/strong>, Suniel was asked whether he and Akshay Kumar would ever come together for a patriotic film again. His response took everyone by surprise, as he said Hera Pheri. The crowd was visibly stunned, but he backed his statement with conviction.<\/span><\/p>\n

The problem with today\u2019s youth is that they\u2019re not mentally at peace. Hera Pheri is for all of you, so you can be mentally happy\u2026 and say that whatever our country has is extraordinary\u2026 It\u2019s the best. It makes us laugh\u2026 feeds us\u2026 even in poverty, we laugh and make others laugh. And if you find a partner like Babu Bhai, then what more do you need?)\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sunil, who was a leading action star of the 1990s, has had a relatively quiet run at the box office in recent years. As he now readies for the release of Kesari Veer, he reflected candidly on this lull in his career during the same event. When a journalist pointed out that Akshay Kumar<\/a> has been consistently doing patriotic films and linked it to Suniel\u2019s past statement of \u2018who is going to buy such films,\u2019 he was quick to clarify: \u201cMain Akshay ki baat nahi kar raha tha\u2026 main meri baat kar raha tha\u2026 Akshay toh superstar hai yaar\u2026 par meri pichli films nahi chali hai\u2026 <\/span>(I wasn\u2019t talking about Akshay\u2026 I was talking about myself. Akshay is a superstar, man\u2026 but my recent films haven\u2019t worked).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He candidly went on to acknowledge the commercial struggles his films have faced. \u201cTicket nahi bikti hai meri films ki\u2026 woh dekhna zaruri hai\u2026 pyaar bohot hai logon mein\u2026 kisi kisi ko free mein dekhna chahte hai\u2026 shayad mujhe free mein dekhna chahte hai.\u201d (Tickets for my films don\u2019t sell\u2026 and that\u2019s important to acknowledge.
