While speaking to Them magazine, the rarely-seen child of The <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/entertainment\/hollywood\/robert-de-niro-thanks-francis-ford-coppola-for-not-casting-him-in-the-godfather-9970683\/lite\/\" class=\"\">Godfather 2 star opened up<\/a> a bit about her new identity as a Black trans woman, and what helped her make that decision. She said she wasn\u2019t attending premieres, wasn\u2019t part of her dad\u2019s movie sets, and didn\u2019t get the usual \u201cnepo baby\u201d treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI wasn\u2019t brought up having a side part in one of dad\u2019s movies or going to business meetings or attending premieres. Unlike others in the family, her siblings, especially, who were \u201crelatively thin,\u201d she said, \u201cso I sort of stood out like a sore thumb and there wasn\u2019t anybody in my family that could relate to that experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cObviously, no parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight. They wanted it to be very private,\u201d Airyn said. \u201cThey have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible.\u201d From a young age, she felt like she was always being told she was either too much of something or not enough. \u201cToo big, not skinny enough. Not Black enough, not white enough. Too feminine, not masculine enough,\u201d she recalled. \u201cIt was never just, \u2018You\u2019re just right, just the way you are.\u2019\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Though the world has labelled her a nepo baby, Airyn feels she doesn\u2019t deserve that title.\u00a0 Even when she\u2019s been \u201cvisible\u201d as De Niro\u2019s daughter, she hasn\u2019t truly felt seen as her full self. \u201cI\u2019ve been visible. The couple welcomed twins in 1995 \u2014 Airyn and her brother Julian Henry De Niro. At 29, she\u2019s grateful for growing up away from the limelight and having supportive parents, but she still fears that her family might see her as the same person she was before. Airyn was born as Aaron, and it was in November 2024 that she began hormonal therapy.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"adboxtop adsizes\">\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>\u2018The influence of\u00a0 Black women on me\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In her interview, Airyn specially mentioned how the biggest part of her decision was driven by the impact of black women on her, \u201cI think a big part of [my transition] is also the influence Black women have had on me,\u201d for her stepping into this new identity while being prid of her \u201cblackness,\u2019 made her feel closer to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Just like her famous parent, Airyn too wants to build a career in acting and even auditioned for a role in Euphoria, which could\u2019ve been her big break, but the role went to Hunter Schafer. But she still wants to be an actress and model, just like her mom, Toukie.
