In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the singer for the first time opened up about the shocking diagnosis and the symptoms nobody caught. However, in a follow-up interview with the publication, his daughter revealed how his family missed out on one of the major signs that started showing up during one of their family gatherings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, the 72-year-old revealed he was diagnosed with glioblastoma in December 2023. Just days after Thanksgiving, Michael was rushed into an emergency surgery after doctors found a brain tumour. \u201cYou\u2019re reaching into your resources and your resolve in a way that you never would have thought,\u201d Bolton, whose speech was clearly impacted by the treatment, said during the interview, where he was joined by his two daughters. \u201cSuccumbing to the challenge is not an option. You\u2019re really quickly drawn into a duel. According to her, back in fall 2023, everything seemed fine. Michael was performing, doing interviews, filming, even appearing on The Masked Singer\u2014until one day, the family decided to have a family bowling night out. And Michael kept bowling out of turn. Over and over. It didn\u2019t seem like a big deal at first, but it wasn\u2019t like him. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThat was when we were like, \u2018Something\u2019s wrong with his brain,\u2019\u201d said Taryn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Looking back now, they think they missed out on several things. \u201cEverything that happened was weird for him but not super alarming. When you look back at everything together\u2026 we missed so many things.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even before the incident, in November, while performing for a charity event, Michael suddenly became exhausted by nausea and balance issues, and thankfully, his daughters were there. \u201cIs this stress? Is this sleep?\u201d Taryn remembers wondering. \u201cHe\u2019d been working nonstop that whole time. Travelling, doing shows, doing all of these things.\u201d\u00a0 Later, what followed was headaches. Losing balance. Falling out of a chair. And not from drinking \u2014 Michael doesn\u2019t even drink. And the nurses? They were stunned. However, the real issue with this deadly disease is that it tends to grow back even after the removal. For Michael, a second surgery came in January due to infection. Although he finished up radiation and chemo in October, now he gets scanned every two months. \u201cSuccumbing to the challenge is not an option,\u201d he told <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">PEOPLE<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in his deeply moving interview, yet he didn\u2019t lose his humour, as he added, \u201cYou\u2019re really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that\u2019s the way you find out what you\u2019re made of.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At 72 and juggling a lot of\u00a0 training, exercise, and healthy eating habits, he says he\u2019s got a new song title in mind: \u201cAin\u2019t Going Down Without a Fight.\u201d\u00a0 Michael spends time surrounded by his daughters and his six grandkids: Amelia (14), Olivia (13), Dylan (11), Grayson (10), River (9), and Jack (8). \u201cWhenever you find yourself in any kind of challenging position, just to know that you\u2019re not alone going through it is a big deal,\u201d says the singer. \u201cIt actually helps people to know.
