Gossip magazines went all out in the 1990s with stories from the sets of Rajkumar Santoshi\u2019s cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, particularly about the fights between the leading ladies, Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor. A magazine even reported that the cold war turned physical when Karisma and Raveena even pulling each other\u2019s hair once.<\/p>\n

However, now, late producer Vinay Sinha\u2019s children have refuted the rumours that Karisma and Raveena\u2019s fight ever turned physical. \u201cNo no, not at all. Aisa kuchh nahi tha (that wasn\u2019t the case),\u201d said Namrata, Vinay\u2019s daughter. \u201cThey were not on talking terms because aisa har actress ya actor mein hota hai (this happens between all actors),\u201d added Amod Sinha, Vinay\u2019s son who also assisted his father in production and Santoshi in direction on Andaz Apna Apna.<\/p>\n

In the interview with Radio Nasha, Vinay\u2019s daughter Priti clarified, \u201cSee, they just wouldn\u2019t talk to each other. But nothing physical ever happened.\u201d In an earlier interview with IANS, Raveena had admitted that she and Karisma weren\u2019t on talking terms, which prompted Santoshi to keep them tied together after the climax shoot till they sorted out the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe boys (Aamir Khan<\/a> and Salman Khan<\/a>) tried to bring Karisma and me together<\/a>. In fact, in the climax, there\u2019s a scene where Karishma and I are tied to a pillar. Rajji said, \u2018We won\u2019t untie you unless you talk to one another,\u2019\u201d Raveena had recalled. Vinay\u2019s kids also corroborated that. \u201cThey were tied together for the climax. When the dinner break started, someone said, \u2018Untie them.\u2019 Rajji said, \u2018No one will untie them. First ask them to sort it out among themselves and start talking to each other. Because itna masti ka mahaul hai (it\u2019s a set full of joy), just these two are not talking to each other,’\u201d said Namrata.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they sorted it out. They shook hands and sorted it out. They were very young. Everybody was very young,\u201d added Priti. However, on an episode of Koffee with Karan in 2007, choreographer Farah Khan recalled theirs as the worst fight she\u2019s seen between two actors. \u201cI was once doing a song with Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon, long ago, in a film called Aatish. They were both having some kind of teenage spat. They were hitting each other with their wigs,\u201d recalled Farah.<\/p>\n

Sanjay Gupta\u2019s 1994 directorial debut Aatish: The Fire was shot after Andaz Apna Apna. \u201cThey were wearing these wigs with plaits and beads in them. One was hitting, the other was stamping her foot with her heel. It was quite childish. I am sure they will laugh about it now,\u201d Farah added. Raveena revealed in a 2012 interview that she\u2019s on good terms with Karisma now, thanks to their daughters Rasha Thadani and Samaira Kapoor respectively. \u201cSince our girls go to the same school, we end up bumping into each other and have bonded well. It\u2019s easier to hang out and discuss our kids,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Raveena and Karisma weren\u2019t even the first choice for Andaz Apna Apna. Neelam, Mamta Kulkarni, and Manisha Koirala were considered too. \u201cI\u2019ve also heard about other actresses. But I think because of the relationship our father had with Ravi uncle, Raveena\u2019s father, was one of the main reasons why she was cast,\u201d recalled Priti. Ravi Tandon was also a seasoned film producer.<\/p>\n

Namrata revealed that Andaz Apna Apna was the first film Karisma signed, as her debut movie, K Murali Mohana Rao\u2019s 1991 musical Prem Qaidi, happened to her later, but released first. \u201cShe was very young, very sweet. I remember Babita aunty had come home, Kareena being so small. Babita aunty used to come on set since Karisma was very young,\u201d added Priti. Karisma and Kareena Kapoor<\/a>\u2019s mother Babita Kapoor was also a leading lady in the 1970s.<\/p>\n

Andaz Apna Apna, a film that didn\u2019t work initially when it released in 1994, gained a cult status over the years. It was re-released in cinemas<\/a>, with its restored version, last week on April 25.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
