Patanjali Ayurved<\/a> co-founder and yoga guru<\/a> Ramdev on Thursday undertook to take down his new video containing objectionable remarks against Hamdard<\/a>\u2019s popular drink Rooh Afza<\/a> in 24 hours, after the Delhi High Court<\/a> warned him of initiating contempt of court<\/a> proceedings for disobeying its earlier orders.This is the second time that Ramdev<\/a> has offered to take down his videos following adverse observations by the court. The court had on April 22 asked Patanjali to immediately take down all his videos that disparaged the pharmaceutical and food company\u2019s Rooh Afza as \u201cSharbat Jihad.\u201d It had also slammed its founder for using communal slurs that \u201cshocked the conscience of the court\u201d and were \u201cindefensible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justice Amit Bansal’s warning of contempt proceedings on Thursday came after Hamdard senior counsel Sandeep Sethi informed the court that Ramdev had disobeyed the April order that had restrained him from issuing any statements, advertisements and social media posts similar to the April 3 \u201cdisparaging advertisement.\u201d<\/p>\n

“He lives in his own world,” Justice Bansal said, adding that Ramdev was not in anyone’s control.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t care about his political views. I am concerned with the suit. How do we ensure compliance? That he does not refer to their name, their goods?,\u201d the judge said, while asking Ramdev to file an affidavit of compliance. The case will be next heard on Friday.<\/p>\n

Sethi argued that Ramdev has posted another video with communal overtones. “Compare the original and new video. They both refer to Hamdard, both say that I am using profits to build masjid and madrasas and both have a tenor of communal speech,” he submitted.\u201cIn both, he (Ramdev) says we belong to particular community and we are pursuing community interests\u2026 He seems to have gone astray\u2026 Keeping his past conduct, the court had said he will not publish videos similar to past videos and he consciously does exactly that, brought out an identical video,\u201d Sethi said.When Ramdev’s senior counsel Rajiv Nayar pointed out that there cannot be a permanent gag order against him, Justice Bansal retorted saying, \u201cif that is the stance then we will issue contempt notices. The tone and tenor of the new video is almost similar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nayar contended that there was no disparagement of Hamdard’s product in the latest video and the order to takedown earlier videos had already been complied with.<\/p>\n

In his April 3 video, Ramdev had promoted Patanjali\u2019s Gulab Sharbat while making controversial remarks against Rooh Afza. \u201cOn one side, there’s the attack of toilet-cleaner-like poison, and on the other, there’s a company selling sharbat, which uses the money earned from it to build mosques and madrasas. That’s fine, it’s their religion,” Ramdev had said in the ad campaign. He also used the term ‘sharbat jihad<\/a>‘ in his video.<\/p>\n

Ramdev had earlier faced strictures from the Supreme Court for targeting allopathy. The Supreme Court had last year initiated suo moto contempt proceedings against Ramdev and others and they were asked to issue a public apology for publishing misleading advertisements.
