The purpose of the drill was to check how prepared the area is for a power blackout during a security emergency.<!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:2-->The power was cut from 9 PM to 9:30 PM by the <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/punjab-state-power-corporation-limited\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Punjab State Power Corporation Limited<\/a> (PSPCL), and loud hooters were sounded during this time to alert residents.<\/p>\n<p>Station House Officer (SHO) Gurjant Singh said that all lights were turned off following orders from senior officials. If any vehicles were seen with their lights on, they were made to switch them off. He added that the police are on high alert, and officers have been stationed at all major intersections.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said that this was a routine drill and there is no need to panic. &#8220;The administration is fully alert and ready to respond if needed,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the security efforts, DIG Harmanbir Gill led the local police in keeping an eye on suspicious people, known criminals, and smugglers.
