Actor Zeenat Aman is all set to return to our screens with The Royals. The veteran actor, thanks to her solid body of work and a very active Instagram account, has a fan following among the audience of today. She often shares anecdotes from her life, both good and bad, that shaped her into the person she is today. Zeenat married Mazhar Khan in 1985 in a discreet ceremony in Singapore, against the advice of her mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s true that I broke her heart a little when I eloped, but it mended with the birth of my first son, who shares a birthday with her,\u201d Zeenat had said about her wedding<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and how it impacted her relationship with her mother.<\/p>\n

However, she soon realised that she had made a mistake with the marriage. In an earlier interview with Simi Garewal, Zeenat said she decided to bear with the marriage . \u201cThe first year of marriage, I realised I had made a mistake but since I had made the decision against everybody\u2019s will, I decided to make it work. I\u2019m not necessarily saying that it was the best thing for him either. It was a difficult time since the first year because I was pregnant with my first child and Mazhar was not there. There was a big article in Stardust magazine at that time about the woman that Mazhar was seeing. It\u2019s reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mazhar was an actor-producer who is known for films such as Shaan and Bombay Fantasy. He found fame with his character Abdul in Shaan. \u201cAs soon as my son was born, I wanted out and we discussed it but I thought my child deserved a chance and I stayed. But I didn\u2019t just stay, I did everything possible to make it work. I thought about getting back to work when my younger son was 5 years old but right before that Mazhar fell grievously ill. I spent 5 years battling for his health and his life and they were very difficult years,\u201d she said. Mazhar\u2019s ill-health improved with time but he had become addicted to prescription drugs and died of kidney failure eventually.<\/p>\n

Talking about how she did everything to ensure Mazhar became better, Zeenat said, \u201cI tried everything under the sun. We were in and out of every hospital in Mumbai<\/a>. I learned how to give injections, to do dressing. He was living with a bag outside his body for 18 months, I learned how to change that bag. I did everything there was to do. I flew overseas and found the best doctor. When that thing was over and the problem was sorted, it had taken a toll on me. I was very close to a nervous breakdown.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was his drug addiction that forced Zeenat to maintain distance. \u201cHe had stopped helping himself and was inflicting further damage on himself and I couldn\u2019t stay there and watch him do that. He was taking seven painkillers a day. At the end, his kidneys did pack up and this was after I had opted out. When I left, I still cared. I have no guilt because I am sure 99 percent women wouldn\u2019t have lasted as long and as honestly as I did.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
