Taking a leaf out of India\u2019s G20 presidency, Italy\u2019s Ambassador to India Vincenzo de Luca underlined that Africa<\/a> and Global South<\/a> will be integral parts of the G7summit that the Italian city Fasanowill host on June 13-15.
\u201cAfter G20 India, Global South and Africa have moved to the centre stage,\u201d said de Luca at a panel discussion held here to release the book, titled \u201cIndia\u2019s G20 Legacy: Shaping a New World Order.<\/p>\n

Linking India\u2019s G20 legacy to Italy\u2019s presidency of the G7 grouping of the world\u2019s most advanced economies, the Italian envoy said: \u201cNow at G7, Africa and Global South will be integral parts of the agenda in Italy.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe success of India\u2019s G20 presidency is precisely the capacity to preserve the role of G20 because that was at risk,\u201d said the Italian envoy. The envoy listed out deliverables of India\u2019s G20 presidency, including finance for climate change and finance for health. New dimensions were included like addressing the dimension of consumption patterns through LiFE(Lifestyle for Environment). <\/p>\n

Edited by Manish Chand, a foreign policy expert and author, India\u2019s<\/em>G20 Legacy: Shaping a New World Order <\/em>includes original perspectives and insights by practitioners, diplomats, and strategic experts that illuminate the multi-faceted legacy of India\u2019s G20 presidency. The foreword to the book has been written by Harsh Vardhan Shringla, India\u2019s then-G20 Chief Coordinator and former Foreign Secretary.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndia\u2019s year-long G20 presidency was pathbreaking and transformative in myriad ways, leaving a lasting legacy by paving the way for shaping an inclusive and human-centric world order,\u201d said Chand, also CEO, Centre for Global India Insights, a think tank. Indonesia\u2019s Ambassador to India Ina H. Krisnamurty heaped praises on India\u2019s G20 presidency for promoting inclusivity in the 21-member grouping. She lauded India for taking the lead to include the African Union as a full member of the G20 and increasing the inclusivity of the G20. Second, she praised India for undertaking the initiative to host two editions of the \u201cVoice of the Global South Summit,\u201d which provided a platform for projecting interests and aspirations of the Global South in the G20 agenda.South Africa, which takes over the G20 presidency after Brazil, is all praise for India for mainstreaming concerns of the Global South in the G20 agenda. \u201cIndia has left a remarkable legacy. The G20 is the only platform that brings together the Global North and Global South,\u201d said Anil Sooklal, South Africa\u2019s High-Commissioner-designate to India and a senior diplomat of global repute.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndia has demonstrated that it\u2019s possible for Global North and Global South to have a dialogue and discuss key global issues,\u201d said Sooklal, who joined virtually from Johannesburg. <\/p>\n

Senior diplomats, including Muktesh Pradeshi (Secty in MEA) and Lakshmi Puri, stressed the people-centric character of India\u2019s G20 presidency and dwelt at length on how civil society became an integral part of the G20 process. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo other country has ever done a diplomatic endeavor at a pan-country level. Diplomacy became a part of our everyday lexicon. Even taxi wallahs, shopkeepers, barbers — everybody became part of a great national endeavor,\u201d said Pradeshi, currently Secretary (CPV & OIA) in India\u2019s Ministry of External Affairs, who supervised organisation of the New Delhi summit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was never before Jan Bhagidari- participation of women actors from all, from the grassroots to top policy levels in this whole process. So it was not only the people’s G20, but this was also women\u2019s G20,\u201d said Lakshmi Puri, Former Assistant Secretary General, UN.<\/p>\n

The contributors to the book read like a veritable who\u2019s who of the diplomatic and strategic establishment, and include among others, South Africa\u2019s Foreign Minister Dr G.N.M. Pandor, India\u2019s G20 Coordinator Amitabh Kant, Sujan R. Chinoy, DG, MPIDSA, Shringla, Italy\u2019s Ambassador to India Vincenzo de Luca and Brazil\u2019s Ambassador to India Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
