India needs a different approach than the rest of the world when it comes to artificial intelligence<\/a> (AI), focusing on the huge opportunities it presents rather than just the risks, Debjani Ghosh, president of IT industry apex body Nasscom, said on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what India has to do differently is, while the rest of the world is going around in circles figuring out the risks \u2013 the fear narrative rules the west \u2013 India has to be different and stand up and talk about the opportunity narrative of AI, of course with the right oversights,\u201d Ghosh said.<\/p>\n

She added the focus should be on how AI can unleash productivity across sectors.<\/p>\n

The tools, products, services and capabilities for this will come from the startup ecosystem, and this will be key to unlocking the journey to a Viksit Bharat (developed India), Ghosh said.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Startup Mahakumbh<\/a>, a congregation expected to host over 1,000 startups along with investors and delegates, Ghosh congratulated the government\u2019s recent Rs 10,000-crore outlay for the IndiaAI Mission, calling it a \u2018holistic\u2019 initiative that supports AI for national competitiveness and growth.<\/p>\n

She also highlighted the role of deeptech in accelerating India\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you think about Viksit Bharat and the accelerated growth rate India has to achieve in the next few years, you cannot think about it without thinking deeptech,\u201d she said. \u201cThink of it as the key to unlock the accelerated growth potential of India.\u201dThe startup ecosystem is going to lead India\u2019s \u2018deeptech revolution\u2019, she added.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same event, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) secretary RK Singh said that the government\u2019s deeptech policy<\/a> is in the final stages of inter-ministerial consultations.<\/p>\n

The policy aims to support startups operating in the high-end technology space across several sectors such as AI, Internet of Things, space technology and machine learning.<\/p>\n

During the interim budget in February, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced a new scheme to strengthen deeptech, with a corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
