Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad<\/a>, on Monday, expressed his disapproval of the Congress party’s proposal to conduct a wealth redistribution<\/a> survey if elected to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Without directly naming the Congress, Prasad likened the idea to a flawed strategy employed in cricket, calling it “pathetic”.
Prasad took to Twitter to voice his criticism, stating, “One of the political party\u2019s manifesto is to redistribute the wealth of the rich to the poor. The really poor need to be uplifted but this thought process is so pathetic. It is like saying If we take 4 points from RR and 4 from KKR and SRH and re-distribute it to the bottom 3 teams, they can make the playoffs.”<\/p>\n

Prasad’s remarks come in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a>‘s recent allegations against the Congress party, insinuating that their intention to redistribute wealth could have adverse implications for the nation. Modi’s remarks triggered a backlash from opposition parties.<\/p>\n

The controversy stems from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi<\/a>‘s announcement on April 6 regarding the party’s plan to conduct a comprehensive financial and institutional survey aimed at assessing wealth distribution across various demographics in the country.<\/p>\n

In response to Modi’s allegations, Rahul Gandhi clarified that the Congress manifesto did not explicitly mention wealth redistribution. Senior party leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized the party’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive socio-economic caste census.<\/p>\n

Modi, however, persisted in his accusations, likening the Congress’s proposed actions to those of Maoists and alleging that the party sought to seize and redistribute citizens’ assets.<\/p>\n

Addressing a public gathering in Aligarh, Modi warned against the purported intentions of the Congress-INDIA alliance, cautioning citizens about potential infringements on their property rights. He highlighted concerns over the scrutiny of individuals’ earnings, investments, and possessions, suggesting a threat to personal financial security.<\/p>\n

“Our mothers and sisters have gold. This is not just for wearing on occasions, this is ‘stree dhan’, it is considered sacred, even the law also protects it.
