Prosus<\/a>, one of the major technology investors in India, has elevated Ashutosh Sharma<\/a> to lead its India<\/a> and Southeast Asia<\/a> investments.
Sharma was heading the venture arm of Prosus in India till recently. As part of the promotion, Sharma will now report to the Dutch investment firm\u2019s interim chief executive Ervin Tu.<\/p>\n

An alumnus of IIT-BHU Varanasi, Sharma led the fund\u2019s investment in Swiggy and Meesho. He will look at new investments for Prosus and work closely with portfolio firms like Urban Company, Mensa Brands and others.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Prosus said Sharma will lead early and growth-plus opportunities across India and adjacent markets. \u201cProsus seeks to back exceptional technology companies, across multiple sectors, whether through controlled or minority investments<\/a>. The current market environment provides well-capitalised companies like ours the opportunity to invest in generation-defining businesses,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Sharma joined Prosus in 2016, before which he was at Norwest Venture Partners and Qualcomm Ventures.<\/p>\n

Prosus\u2013which has invested $7 billion in India\u2013is facing one of its biggest challenges with investment in Byju\u2019s and is amid a legal battle with the founder of the company<\/a>. Its portfolio firm Swiggy is preparing to file for an IPO <\/a>and obtained shareholders’ nod earlier this week.<\/p>\n

In an abrupt move, Bob van Djik resigned as Prosus CEO in September last year<\/a> after which Tu was named the interim CEO. Gautam Thakar, previously the CEO of Olx Autos, is head of edtech investments globally.<\/div>\n
