Tech giant<\/a> Google has terminated employees from its Flutter, Dart<\/a> and Python teams<\/a> weeks before its annual developer conference, TechCrunch reported, citing social media posts of impacted staff.
A spokesperson for Google<\/a> told the news portal that to prepare for opportunities ahead, the tech giant has made changes to its teams through the second half of 2023 and into 2024 to be more efficient. “We\u2019re simplifying our structures to give employees more opportunity to work on our most innovative and important advances and our biggest company priorities, while reducing bureaucracy and layers,” the person is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n

Google said the layoffs<\/a> are not company-wide. Impacted employees can apply to other roles hiring at the company, the report said.<\/p>\n

This comes weeks after Google executed layoffs in a bid to cut costs<\/a> across the company’s real estate and finance departments. In the finance department, employees were let go in treasury, business services, and revenue cash operations.<\/p>\n

Google’s finance chief Ruth Porat, in an email to staff, said that Google would build out its \u201cgrowth hubs\u201d in locations such as Bangalore, Mexico City, and Dublin as part of the restructuring<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier in January, the tech titan sacked hundreds of workers across multiple teams<\/a>, including its engineering, hardware and assistant teams as the company shifted focus to build its artificial intelligence capabilities.<\/p>\n
