Spacetech startup Digantara<\/a>, which focuses on space situational awareness<\/a> (SSA), has been chosen for a joint industry space mission called Mission for Australia-India’s Technology, Research and Innovation (Maitri) to manage debris in space.<\/p>\n

The mission, led by Space Machines Company, has won over AUD $8.5 million (Rs 46 crore) in grants from the Australian Space Agency as a part of the International Space Investment (ISI) India Projects programme.<\/p>\n

Founder and CEO Anirudh Sharma told ET that Digantara is the primary and only partner from the SSA category of technologies on the mission. Hyderabad-based avionics developer Ananth Technologies will also help with its engineering expertise and access to its cleanroom facilities for integration and testing.<\/p>\n

Maitri will demonstrate progress towards space debris management<\/a> and a sustainable space future, as per a statement from the Australian government. It will incorporate an Australian built Orbital Servicing Vehicle launched on a dedicated Indian launcher, it said.<\/p>\n

Space Machines Company will work with Digantara to integrate its proprietary optical sensor technology onto the former\u2019s Australian-built Orbital Servicing Vehicle, Sharma said. The integration is expected to transform the monitoring of Resident Space Objects (RSOs) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), enhancing space traffic management and debris monitoring.<\/p>\n

Bengaluru-based Digantara is a space situational awareness company building end-to-end infrastructure to address the difficulties of space operations and situational awareness through its platform.The Peak XV Partners-backed company aims to release a total of 40 satellites, aided by a Space-Mission Assurance Platform (Space-MAP) that uses a multi-modal data pool to provide clients with datasets and orbital insights. Founded by Sharma, Rahul Rawat and Tanveer Ahmed in 2018, it inaugurated its global headquarters housing a command and control centre and cleanroom spanning 25,000 square feet in Hebbal, Bengaluru last month.<\/div>\n
