Heeramandi:\u00a0The Diamond Bazaar<\/em> is receiving\u00a0love and appreciation from fans and critics. The series, which marks director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s\u00a0debut in the OTT space, features a stellar cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha and Aditi Rao Hydari. Recently, Jason Shah, who portrays the role of British police officer Cartwright, opened up about the same-sex scene in the series with Ustadji\u00a0played by Indresh Malik. In an interview with Filmibeat OTT,<\/a> Jason Shah admitted that initially he was hesitant to shoot the scene but he had full\u00a0confidence that the director would not portray it cheaply.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be so close to another man, you will face\u2026 hesitation is the perfect word. I wasn’t\u00a0hesitating to say yes to the show, and I felt comfortable because I was working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, so I knew aesthetically, it wouldn’t\u00a0be portrayed\u00a0in a way that would seem cheap. I knew that his standard would be met. I was definitely\u00a0nervous coming up to that day. They told me in the night that tomorrow would be that scene,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u00a0He also praised his co-star Indresh\u00a0Malik and\u00a0thanked him for ensuring that he\u00a0was comfortable before their intimate scene.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI’ll\u00a0always remember, on the drive there, I was like,\u00a0\u2018What’s\u00a0going to happen?’ But Indresh Malik was so sweet, he\u00a0was also so professional. We built a rapport at lunch, and by the time we got to the scene,\u00a0we were very comfortable with each other.\u00a0Yes,\u00a0a little nervous. But you know what they say when you have butterflies in your stomach, use it,\u201d Jason added.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In an earlier conversation with India.com, the actor spoke about the scene where Mallikajaan (played by\u00a0Manisha Koirala) arrives at the police station and requests the officers to release her daughter Alamzeb (played by Sharmin Segal). He said,\u00a0\u201cI think the rape scene is quite relevant because it is breaking her (Mallikajaan) character. I think she\u00a0comes to terms in her own\u00a0mind\u00a0however she sees it. She does it for a daughter. She also realizes that the power-play game still lies in the hands of the British and\u00a0she has to do what it takes as she was taking the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0In addition to Heeramandi<\/em>, Jason Shah has appeared in several projects such\u00a0as Chandrashekhar, Jhansi Ki Rani, Barrister Babu, and Swaraj. Indresh Malik on\u00a0the other hand\u00a0also featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s\u00a02022 film Gangubai Kathiawadi<\/em> alongside Alia Bhatt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
