Delhi Chief Minister<\/a> Arvind Kejriwal<\/a> on Friday walked out of Tihar jail<\/a>, hours after the Supreme Court<\/a> granted him interim bail<\/a> in the Delhi Excise Policy case till June 1. The apex Court in its order said that the Aam Aadmi Party<\/a> leader is not a threat to the society.<\/p>\n

After coming out of jail, the Delhi CM said, ” I have a request, we have to save the country from dictatorship. I am fighting against it with all might.” <\/p>\n

“I had promised to come back soon, here I am,” he said while addressing party workers.<\/p>\n

He is set to address a press conference at party headquarters at 1 pm tomorrow.<\/p>\n

While granting interim relief<\/a> to Kejriwal, the top court observed that serious accusations have been made against Arvind Kejriwal<\/a> but he has not been convicted yet. “Arvind Kejriwal does not have any criminal antecedents and he is not a threat to society,” said SC in the bail order.<\/p>\n

Kejriwal bail conditions<\/strong>
Kejriwal, as part of bail conditions, cannot visit the CM’s office and Delhi Secretariat. He has been asked to furnish bail bonds of Rs 50,000 with one surety of like amount for release from Tihar jail, where he is currently lodged.SC\u2019s bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta said Kejriwal will have to surrender and go back to jail on June 2.<\/p>\n

The court denied senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi’s plea, representing Kejriwal, for extending the interim bail until June 5. June 1 marks the end of the seven-phase elections, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.<\/p>\n

Observing that granting Kejriwal interim bail for 21 days will not make much of a difference, the bench said the ED’s Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) was registered in August 2022 while the chief minister was arrested on March 21 this year.<\/p>\n

“He (Kejriwal) was out there for one-and-a-half-years. He could have been arrested earlier or after but nothing such thing happened,” the bench told ED.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
