This announcement comes just days after reports surfaced about layoffs within this branch of the company.<br \/>In a post on X, Musk wrote, &#8220;Just to reiterate: Tesla will spend well over $500M expanding our Supercharger network to create thousands of NEW chargers this year.&#8221;<br \/>&#8220;That&#8217;s just on new sites and expansions, not counting operations costs, which are much higher,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by The Information on Monday, Tesla was in the process of disbanding its supercharger department, resulting in the layoff of most of its 500 employees, including the senior director. <br \/>This news raised concerns regarding the future expansion of Tesla&#8217;s vast network of over 50,000 <!-- -->fast chargers<!-- -->, which is currently the largest in the world, according to Tesla these chargers can add 320 kilometers of range in just fifteen minutes.<br \/>The fear of inadequate charging infrastructure is one of the reasons why sales of electric vehicles are progressing less rapidly than expected in the United States.
