The Supreme Court<\/a> on Monday slammed authorities<\/a> over failure to process municipal solid waste<\/a> generated in Delhi<\/a>, and termed it a “sorry state of affairs.”The apex court said in the country’s capital, 3,000 tons of municipal solid waste<\/a> is untreated every day. <\/p>\n

“What is the solution to that,” a bench of justices AS Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan asked the lawyers appearing for different authorities, including the Municipal<\/a> Corporation of Delhi (MCD).<\/p>\n

The bench observed that the issue of processing<\/a> municipal solid waste was “very vital” for the national capital<\/a> and there should be no politics be involved in this.<\/p>\n

The hearing in the matter has been passed over and will be taken up again during the day.While hearing the matter on April 22, the apex court had termed as “shocking” that 3,000 tonnes of the 11,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste generated in Delhi every day was not processed.The top court, which had perused a report of the Commission of Air Quality Management<\/a> (CAQM) on pollution<\/a> in the national capital region and adjoining areas, had said it was a serious issue.<\/p>\n

Last week, Danish Ambassador<\/a> to India, Freddy Svane, drew attention to a litter-filled service lane close to the Embassy of Denmark<\/a> and requested authorities to intervene.<\/p>\n

Taking to X, the envoy posted a video and captioned: “Lovely and green New Delhi. Many words but no action. Saddened by this @DenmarkinIndia @CMODelhi @LtGovDelhi’.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
