Heatwave conditions also persist in many areas of <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/punjab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Punjab<\/a>, <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/haryana-chandigarh-delhi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi<\/a>, and isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh. <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/gujarat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gujarat<\/a> has experienced these conditions since May 15th, and Saurashtra &amp; Kutch since May 16th. Tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh to escape the intense heat of the plains are disappointed to encounter a heatwave in parts of the state. These conditions are expected to persist in isolated areas of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra, and Shimla districts for the next 4-5 days, with the possibility of a severe heatwave in these regions.<!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=107107653potime:2-->Maximum temperatures ranged from 43-46\u00b0C in most parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, and in many parts of Gujarat, according to IMD In some areas of Madhya Pradesh, temperatures were between 40-42\u00b0C in parts of Bihar, and isolated pockets of Jharkhand, Vidarbha, and northern Madhya Maharashtra. These temperatures were 2-4\u00b0C above normal in these regions.<\/p>\n<p>The IMD predicts a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3\u00b0C in central India over the next four days. In Maharashtra, temperatures are expected to increase by about 2-3\u00b0C over the next three days with no significant change thereafter. In northwest India, no significant <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/temperature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temperature<\/a> changes are expected for the next two days, followed by a gradual rise of about 2\u00b0C. No significant temperature changes are expected in other parts of the country.<\/p>\n<h2>Heatwave warning for next 5 days<\/h2>\n<p>Severe heatwave conditions has been forecast in many areas of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi ,west Rajasthan, east Rajasthan and parts of west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and northern Madhya Pradesh. Hot and humid weather is expected to prevail in Konkan &amp; Goa, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Odisha. Warm night conditions are likely in East Rajasthan from May 19th-23rd and Bihar on May 19th.<\/p>\n<p>The IMD issued a red alert for Delhi, with no immediate respite from the heatwave. IMD senior scientist Naresh Kumar said that this situation is expected to continue for the next week, with temperatures potentially crossing 45 degrees Celsius if there is no rainfall in North India. The red alert covers Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, emphasizing extreme care for vulnerable populations. <\/p>\n<p>The IMD also indicated that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, for the next five days, advising people to avoid sun exposure. Isolated pockets in Saurashtra-Kutch, Banaskantha, and Valsad experienced heatwave conditions on Sunday. <\/p>\n<h2>Himachal Pradesh also in grasp of heatwave<\/h2>\n<p>According to the Indian Meteorological Centre in Shimla, the state&#8217;s average maximum temperature is anticipated to rise by 2-3 degrees during this period. The average minimum temperature for the mid hills, low hills, and plains of the state is also likely to increase by 2-3 degrees, remaining above normal. In contrast, the minimum temperature for high hill areas is expected to decrease by 1-2 degrees.Popular tourist destinations such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Narkanda, and Kufri, which are currently experiencing a surge in visitors. On Sunday, Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 29.5 degrees Celsius, 4.5 degrees above normal, while Dharamshala saw a maximum of 35.1 degrees Celsius, 3.9 degrees above normal.
