Guwahati<\/a>: Security forces<\/a> in Manipur<\/a> apprehended three armed cadres<\/a> of Kangleipak Communist Party<\/a> (Taibanganba<\/a>) faction.<\/p>\n

Defence sources said that acting on an actionable information about the movement of armed cadres in general area Khongjom in Thoubal district<\/a> of Manipur, a joint team of Indian Army<\/a>, Assam Rifles<\/a> and Manipur Police<\/a> launched a search operation on 21 May 2024. The operation resulted in the apprehension of three armed cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba) faction. Two 9mm Pistols with Ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered from the caders. All apprehended persons and recovered stores have been handed over to the Manipur<\/a> Police for further investigation\u201d.<\/p>\n

At least 220 people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 60,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei<\/a> and Kuki-Zomi communities on May 3 last year.<\/p>\n

The riots began after a \u2018Tribal Solidarity March\u2019 was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community\u2019s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.<\/p>\n

Probe demand of Congress
<\/strong>Barely five days after celebrated fashion designer, Kumarjit Laishram, who was \u2018punished\u2019 for his involvement in unethical activities, named four high profile people of the state to be involved in a sex scandal, the opposition Congress today sought the government to probe into the matter and take necessary measures.<\/p>\n

The banned Koireng-led UNLF \u2018punished\u2019 Kumarjit by pumping a bullet in his leg in Imphal West district for his role in the sex racket.Admitting that he supplied women to high profile people of the state, Kumarjit, who also runs a spa and a beauty salon close to his Takyel Khonbal Maning Leikai in Imphal West district, named two ministers, a legislator and an officer as his clients. He is undergoing treatment at the Centre-run RIMS hospital here.Leaders of the Mahila, youth, NSUI and Seva Dal of the \u2018Grand old Party\u2019 submitted the memoranda to the Governor, chief minister and assembly speaker, demanding to initiate a probe \u201cat the highest level\u201d to the alleged sex scandal involving the VIPs and take necessary actions accordingly.<\/p>\n

In the memo, the Congress leaders said the sex scandal published in the media \u201cseems to be one of the very serious issues regarding the morality and immorality among the elected members as well as other top ranking bureaucrat officers.\u201d<\/p>\n

It added that none of the VIPs named by Kumarjit \u201cmade any clarification from their personal side as to whether they were really involved or not in the said sex scandal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn such a situation in the interest of the general public, particularly the women, we have decided to approach the State Government for initiating an enquiry to the satisfaction of the public as the authority is still silent over the issue,\u201d read the memo.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, we hereby request your good office to kindly constitute an Enquiry Commission at the highest level so as to find out if any of the named VIPs are involved. Further, we also request your good self to take up appropriate action(s) as per the findings of the inquiry in the interest of the public in general and women in particular,\u201d the frontal Congress leaders said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
