Police detained<\/a> a nursing officer<\/a> at AIIMS Rishikesh<\/a> after a junior resident doctor accused him of molestation in the trauma surgery unit<\/a> on Sunday evening. The police entered the AIIMS campus to arrest him, and a video of the incident went viral on social media.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>The accused allegedly touched the doctor inappropriately and later sent text messages apologizing for his “immoral” act. Disturbed by the behavior, the doctor filed a complaint<\/a> with the hospital administration on Monday, prompting an internal inquiry.<\/p>\n

Sandeep Kumar, AIIMS-Rishikesh PRO, stated, “The accused was suspended<\/a> on Tuesday based on the complaint filed by the doctor. An internal complaint committee is investigating the allegations in accordance with the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. She had also filed an FIR on Tuesday and the police have detained the accused.”<\/p>\n

AIIMS Rishikesh Protests<\/a> and Official Actions
<\/strong>The incident led to protests by medical students outside the administration office, demanding action against the nursing officer. Kusum Kandwal, chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women<\/a>, visited AIIMS to meet the doctor and instructed the Dehradun<\/a> district magistrate to form an investigation committee and submit a report on the matter.<\/p>\n

Resident doctors protested outside the Dean’s office, calling for the immediate dismissal of the nursing officer, stating that suspension was insufficient for the severity of the offense, according to Medical Superintendent Sanjiv Kumar Mittal.<\/p>\n

They also demanded the suspension of Assistant Nursing Superintendent ANS Sinoj, who had assigned the nursing officer to duty, Mittal added.<\/p>\n

Despite the strike by senior and junior doctors since Tuesday, emergency services and 90 percent of the operation theatres at the hospital remain operational, Mittal noted.<\/p>\n

A letter requesting the nursing officer’s dismissal has been sent to higher authorities, and Sinoj has been given 72 hours to provide an explanation, Mittal concluded.<\/div>\n
