NEW DELHI: Newly appointed as the captain of Australia’s T20 side, Mitchell Marsh aims to maintain a relaxed atmosphere within the squad as they pursue an unprecedented feat of holding titles in all three formats of the game at the upcoming World Cup.
The experienced allrounder, who has overcome past criticism to become a respected figure, leads a well-established 15-man squad determined to redeem themselves after failing to advance to the knockout stages in the previous event held on home soil in 2022.<\/p>\n

Chief selector George Bailey expresses confidence in Marsh’s ability to inspire the team. “I think he’s just got the natural characteristics of someone who is very genuine (and shows) good care around others,” Bailey said.
“Performance is obviously a really important one too from your captain, from your leader. You want them to lead from the front. I think Mitch has done that particularly well in T20 cricket<\/a> over a period of time,” he added.
Marsh, who comes from a cricketing family, intends to maintain a balanced approach, ensuring the team remains at ease off the field while giving their all during matches. He acknowledges the importance of preparation and planning but emphasizes the need for a positive team environment.
“One of the biggest things I’ve learned is to not change too much. A lot of preparation and planning goes into a World Cup, but once we’re there it’s about keeping everything nice and relaxed, keeping the environment good and making sure we give it our all,” stated the skipper.<\/p>\n

With a squad boasting versatility and experience, Marsh has access to seasoned players like Pat Cummins, Matthew Wade, and David Warner for guidance.
The batting lineup is expected to feature Warner and Travis Head as openers, with Marsh at first drop, followed by power-hitters Tim David and Glenn Maxwell. The bowling attack will be spearheaded by the trio of Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, with Adam Zampa providing spin options and Nathan Ellis offering medium-pace alternatives.
Although no team has simultaneously held the T20, ODI, and Test world championships, Marsh remains focused on the immediate challenges of the World Cup rather than dwelling on this potential achievement. Australia, placed in Group B alongside England, will commence their campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 6.
