Delhi Minister Atishi<\/a> has written to Uttar Pradesh<\/a> and Haryana<\/a> officials seeking release of additional water for a month as parts of national capital reels from a water crisis.Atishi wrote to UP<\/a> CM Yogi Adityanath<\/a> and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini<\/a> seeking more water as the city reels from a 50 degrees Celsius-strong heatwave<\/a> till the arrival of monsoon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“As you must be aware, Delhi is facing one of the worst water crises this year. Unlike the previous years, demand for water has gone up by many folds. In order to tackle the existing crisis, we urgently need to release additional water into the Yamuna river<\/a> at the earliest,” Atishi wrote in her letter.<\/p>\n

“Yesterday on a visit to Wazirabad Barrage<\/a>, I found that the water level at the pond was 670.3 feet as against the normal of 674.50 feet. This reduction in water level has led to severe water shortage<\/a> in many parts of the national capital,” she added.<\/p>\n

“Through this letter I wish to appeal to you to kindly consider our request and release additional water in Yamuna at least for the next one month so that the people of Delhi can comfortably surpass this peak summer,” the letter read.<\/p>\n

Delhi heads to SC seeking action<\/h2>\n

The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea from the Delhi government on Monday, requesting Haryana to release surplus water supplied by Himachal Pradesh to alleviate Delhi’s current water crisis.Filed by Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi, the plea includes the Centre, BJP-governed Haryana, and Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh, emphasizing that water access is crucial for survival and a fundamental human right.<\/p>\n

“Access to water is one of the basic human rights of an individual. Not only is water essential for sustenance, but access to water also forms an essential component of the guarantee of dignity and a quality of life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution,” the plea said.<\/p>\n

“The current water crisis, which may only get worse given peak summers and ongoing water shortage, violates the right to a dignified and quality life of the people of the NCT of Delhi, who are unable to access even adequate clean drinking water,” it added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
