The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal<\/a>‘s bail plea<\/a> and extended judicial custody<\/a> till June 19.The Aam Aadmi Party<\/a>‘s national convenor had sought interim bail for seven days citing medical reasons. He is currently lodged in the Tihar jail<\/a> where the Enforcement Directorate<\/a> is probing money laundering<\/a> charges against him in the Delhi Excise Policy case<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Court has asked the concerned authorities to conduct the required medical tests.<\/p>\n

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with the excise policy-linked money laundering case with the AAP alleging that it was done to derail the party’s election campaign.<\/p>\n

Kejriwal, 55, was let out on bail by the Supreme Court<\/a> on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections<\/a>. He surrendered on June 2 after the SC refused to hear his petition seeking an extension of his bail. <\/p>\n

In his speeches, Kejriwal, an IITian and a former civil servant who quit his job as a tax officer before becoming an activist and then a politician, presented himself as a victim of the BJP<\/a>‘s alleged vendetta politics.He said he was sent to jail not because he was corrupt but because he raised voice against the “dictatorship”. He told the crowd he needed their support to save the Constitution and the country.”The Supreme Court had given me this time to campaign for the elections. 21 days completed yesterday, and now I am going straight from here to Tihar. These 21 days are very unforgettable for me. I did not waste even a single minute; I campaigned 24 hours a day to save the country,” he told supporters at the party office before surrendering at the jail on June 2 after his interim bail expired.<\/p>\n

Results made public on Tuesday showed that the AAP-Congress alliance<\/a> lost in Delhi as the Bharatiya Janata Party<\/a> bagged all seven seats for the third consecutive time. <\/p>\n

AAP-Congress alliance, which contested with a 4-3 seat-sharing arrangement, did not enthuse the voters of the nation’s capital much. However, the INDIA bloc<\/a> was able to make a dent in the BJP’s vote share which reduced from 56.7 per cent in 2019 to 54.35 per cent in 2024. While the AAP got a vote share of 24.17 per cent, the Congress bagged 18.91 per cent.<\/p>\n
