Guwahati: Manipur government<\/a> has deported around 38 Myanmar nationals<\/a> on Tuesday.Chief minister N Biren Singh<\/a> stated in X, \u201c In continuation of the deportation process of immigrants, the Government of Manipur<\/a> has deported 38 (thirty-eight) Myanmar Nationals to their home country Myanmar through the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Moreh, today. They have been handed over safely to Myanmar authorities by the Immigration Officers of Government of India posted at ICP, Moreh. The State Government is continuing the identification of illegal immigrants<\/a> and remains steadfast in its resolve to deport them. Let\u2019s keep our borders and country secure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month Manipur chief minister N Biren said efforts are on for the constitution of a Special Police Team<\/a> to identify new settlements, undertake biometrics of illegal migrants<\/a> detected. As per the law of the land, illegal migrants will be deported back following the due process of law. Government will ensure that indigenous people<\/a> are protected, and that illegal migration is checked. <\/p>\n

The chief minister said that due to the current civil war in Myanmar<\/a> a large number of people have been displaced. Many are entering Manipur illegally due to this. Around 5801 illegal Myanmar migrants have been detected in Kamjong district till date
15 have expired due to natural causes 359 have returned to Myanmar .Currently, 5457 illegal Myanmar migrants are in the district. These 5457 migrants are taking shelter in 8 villages in designated camps which are located far from the local habitation to prevent mixing with local people. <\/p>\n

He added that the village local committee is mostly managing the accommodation and maintenance of these designated camps with ration provided by District Administration. The migrants are provided identity cards by the District Administration and headcount is done every alternate day. <\/p>\n

As per reports received, the migrants are keen to go back to Myanmar as cultivation season has started but they have become hesitant due to bombing by the Myanmar army in the past few days.
