Stop treating us like idiots!\u201d <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Tina from Bristol says she won\u2019t be voting because \u201call parties argue and shout at one another\u2026 then when they get voted in. They don\u2019t do what they promise.\u201d<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">For Abbie, 36, from Kent, the biggest issue is restoring trust in politics: \u201cMany voters just believe all the parties are the same,\u201d she wrote.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Juozas, 22, wants politicians to address the decline of trust in institutions:  \u201cRepeatedly seeing scandals addressed years after they\u2019ve happened makes me feel decision makers can dodge accountability\u2026<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cIf feels like every time a scandal is uncovered accountability has to be imposed through relentless public pressure, rather than through the rule of law,\u201d he wrote.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"sc-518485e5-0 kRvAla\">&#8216;Flawed system&#8217;<!-- --><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-43e6b7ba-0 bWSguZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Geoff Telfer from Yorkshire wrote in to say that the most important issue to him was \u201cthe voting system in which approximately half the population is disenfranchised, an obvious result of first-past-the-post\u201d.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cSome form of proportional representation is desperately called for, resulting in consensus policies and fairer representation,\u201d Mr Telfer added.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Olivia, 19, from Ilkeston said many of her friends feel \u201cin political limbo\u201d with no choice \u201cother than to vote to the lesser of two evils\u201d.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Christopher Jerr-Delworth from West Yorkshire concurred: \u201cThe issue that concerns me most of all is that our electoral system is so flawed that we end up with governments that command the support of less than a quarter of the electorate,\u201d he wrote.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Half of voters sampled in England (49%) said they favoured more devolution to regional authorities or an English parliament.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Sir John believes the findings represent a real challenge for whoever wins the election.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cIt is likely to require a style and manner of governing that persuades people that the government has their interests at heart after all,\u201d he says.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cv223kzq6r9o\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BBC A polling station in Hull where voter trust is among the lowest in the UK Trust and confidence in the UK\u2019s politics and election system has never been worse, according to analysis by the electoral expert, Sir John Curtice.
