The recent NEET examination conducted on May 5 has sparked significant controversy, leaving many aspirants like Komal Rani from Jhajjar, Haryana uncertain about their medical college prospects. Despite scoring an impressive 641 out of 720, Komal’s chances have dimmed due to discrepancies in the exam process, including alleged paper leaks, grace marks, and errors at two examination centers.<\/p>\n

Neet Exam Comedy of Errors<\/h2>\n

The National Testing Agency (NTA) administered the NEET exam, which serves as a gateway to medical colleges across India. Komal\u2019s score, 31 points above last year\u2019s cutoff of 610, initially gave her hope. However, grace marks awarded to over 1,500 candidates for time loss raised this year’s cutoff, diminishing her chances. “My father, the sole breadwinner, invested heavily in my education and coaching. What do I do now?” Komal expressed her frustration.<\/p>\n

Confusion at Haryana Examination Centers <\/h2>\n

Bhawna Dalal, another NEET candidate, shared her ordeal at Bahadurgarh’s Hardyal Public School, a center that produced eight national top scorers. “We received the wrong question-paper set, which was taken back after 25 minutes. We had to start over. Many students from my center got grace marks, but I didn\u2019t, losing out on extra credit,” Bhawna recounted.<\/p>\n

Jaivikash Nandal, whose coaching institute had many students at the Hardyal Public School and SR Century Public School centers, explained the confusion. “The NTA stored the primary question paper set with SBI<\/a> and a backup set with Canara Bank. Both sets were issued at these centers, causing confusion. After 25 minutes, the SBI set was withdrawn, leaving these two centers with a harder Canara Bank<\/a> set,” he said.<\/p>\n

NEET Exam Centres’ Official Responses<\/h2>\n

When approached, Hardyal Public School principal Anshu Yadav and director Anuradha Yadav declined to comment, stating they had provided their accounts to the NTA. At SR Century Public School, principal V N Jha, who also coordinated the exam, acknowledged the confusion but refused to discuss time loss and grace marks.<\/p>\n

While some top scorers have chosen not to retake NEET, many aspirants demand a retest for all candidates, not just those who received grace marks.
