The Serbian football association has been charged by UEFA after objects were allegedly thrown at England’s Euro 2024 group stage match against Serbia.<\/p>\n

Eight people were temporarily detained following a brawl between Serbia and England fans in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, ahead of Sunday’s game, police said.<\/p>\n

The charges include “transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event”.<\/p>\n

European’s football’s governing body says its control, ethics and disciplinary body (CEDB) will decide on the matter in due course.<\/p>\n

In addition, a UEFA ethics and disciplinary inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding alleged discriminatory behaviour.<\/p>\n

England won the match 1-0<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Before the match, riot police intervened outside a restaurant festooned with Serbian flags.<\/p>\n

Video posted on social media showed men throwing chairs at each other.<\/p>\n

Seven Serbia supporters and one England fan were detained after the brawl and missed the match, police spokesman Peter Both said.<\/p>\n

One fan went to hospital with a head injury but discharged himself to watch the game, he added.<\/p>\n

A group of England fans threw glasses and stones, a Serbian fan told the AP news agency.<\/p>\n

“There was a clash and we are fine,” said the man who identified himself as Vladimir from Belgrade.<\/p>\n

Reporters who arrived shortly afterwards found the street littered with broken glass.<\/p>\n

After the game ended, the supporters’ departure was “largely orderly and without incident”, Gelsenkirchen police said.<\/p>\n

Those detained were released during the night.<\/p>\n

Police said they would be contacting UEFA to recommend they be barred from forthcoming matches.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
