Following reports of a significant number of Myanmar refugees<\/a> in the Maring areas of Tengnoupal district<\/a> bordering Myanmar<\/a> in Manipur<\/a>, the Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO<\/a>) conducted an inspection of villages near Border Pillars<\/a> 82 to 89 and learned of a considerable presence of illegal Myanmarese migrants settlers.<\/p>\n

RAMO reported that they visited Chanringphai, Choktong, N Satang, and Sangtong villages within the Lamlong Khunou circle. <\/p>\n

The visit was prompted by village chiefs of the areas informing them of their inability to manage the influx of refugees.<\/p>\n

During the visit, the RAMO team observed illegal immigrants<\/a> from Myanmar settling in areas covered by Border Pillars 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, and 89. <\/p>\n

The body added that despite the recent suspension of the Free Movement Regime (FMR), these refugees were found moving back and forth across the Indo-Myanmar border with ease during the late hours of the night.<\/p>\n

RAMO noted that this illegal cross-border movement is occurring under the watch of the Assam Rifles, whose outpost is situated near the compromised border. Notably, it appears that the State Government is unaware of this particular, ongoing illegal migration.At least 220 people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 60,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities on May 3 last year.The riots began after a \u2018Tribal Solidarity March\u2019 was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community\u2019s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
