His wife had been suffering from <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/cancer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Assam Director General of Police, G P Singh stated in X, \u201cIn an unfortunate turn of events, Shiladitya Chetia IPS 2009 RR, Secretary Home &amp; Political Government of Assam, took his own life this evening, a few minutes after the attending physician declared the death of his wife who was battling cancer for a long time. Entire Assam Police family is in deep grief\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Senior police officials said that Chetia was on leave for the past four months. \u201cAfter the news of the death of his wife he sought time to pray beside the body of his wife. Soon gunshots were heard.
