About 43% of air conditioner<\/a> users said that their ACs<\/a> are ineffective in reducing the ambient temperatures to 23-24 degrees during this heatwave<\/a>, community social media platform and pollster, LocalCircles<\/a> found in a survey.<\/p>\n

Users also reported that air conditioners reduce the indoor temperature by 20 degrees Celsius compared to the outdoor temperature and fail to reduce it beyond that. With temperatures soaring to 47-48 degrees, air conditioners, despite being set at 23 degrees, are ineffective in reducing temperatures to 23-24 degrees.<\/p>\n

84% of these respondents stated that the ineffectiveness was observed in their split ACs, and 33% reported the same about their window ACs. It must be noted that split ACs are more commonly owned ACs in households in Delhi NCR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This raises a significant concern regarding most of the available AC units in India and whether they are failing to cater to heat waves and India\u2019s summer season.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocalCircles will escalate the findings of this study with the Bureau of Indian Standards<\/a> and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs so necessary evaluations and interventions can be undertaken,\u201d they said in a press note.<\/p>\n

Record sales of air conditioners have been reported this year with sales growing by over 50% in March to May. Most brands have also flagged a shortage of AC stock.Several incidents of air conditioner blasts and fires have been reported amidst the heatwave in Delhi NCR. Experts have said that constant running, lack of proper maintenance, dirty filters, and wrong thermostat settings are a few of the reasons why air conditioners catch fire, or fail to work effectively.The survey was conducted among the residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. About 31,000 responses were received, out of which 62% of respondents were men while 38% were women. All participants were citizens of India.
