The resolution called for state governments to be allowed to undertake <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/medical-admissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">medical admissions<\/a> based on class 12 marks, as was done before <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/neet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NEET<\/a> was introduced.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:1-->The resolution was introduced by chief minister <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/mk-stalin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MK Stalin<\/a>. The resolution was passed with support from legislators from the ruling alliance parties, including MMK, DMDK, TVK and the CPI(M), as well as PMK, amid a boycott by BJP. The resolution also nudged the Union government to approve a bill passed by the House in 2022 seeking exemption from NEET for students from the state.<\/p>\n<p>Abolition of NEET has also been one of MK Stalin&#8217;s and the <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/dmk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DMK<\/a>&#8216;s election promises.<\/p>\n<p>The state assembly passed two bills seeking exemption from NEET for Tamil Nadu in 2017 and 2021, with the Union government rejecting the former which was piloted by the then <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/aiadmk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AIADMK<\/a> government.
