The district administration of Jiribam in Manipur has formed a reconciliation forum<\/a>. There is tension<\/a> in the district.Manipur police<\/a> stated in X, “under the initiative of SP Jiribam, a committee christened as \u201cJiribam Reconciliation Forum\u201d has been set up on 28th June 2024 with members from the neutral communities of Jiribam i.e. Bengali Hindu, Bengali Muslim, Bishnupriya, Meetei Pangal and Rongmei. The committee will act as mediator and aid the District Administration in the current situation.”<\/p>\n

With Jiribam district in Manipur continuing to restive additional CRPF troopers<\/a> have been deployed in the interior areas of its Borobekra subdivision<\/a>. Tension gripped the area after the killing of 59-year-old farmer Soibam Saratkumar Singh on June 6.<\/p>\n

Around 900 tribals belonging to the Kuki and Hmar communities took shelter at the homes of relatives and friends in two villages \u2013 Haokippunji and Hmarkhawlienin – in the Cachar district of southern Assam, after violence<\/a> broke out.<\/p>\n

At least 220 people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 60,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities on May 3 last year.<\/p>\n

The riots began after a \u2018Tribal Solidarity March\u2019 was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community\u2019s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
