Launching the &#8220;<a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/fauna-of-india-checklist-portal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fauna of India Checklist Portal<\/a>&#8221; on the occasion of the 109th Foundation Day of the <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/zoological-survey-of-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zoological Survey of India<\/a> (ZSI) in Kolkata on Sunday, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said the first comprehensive document on the faunal species in India will position the country as a global leader in <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/biodiversity-documentation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biodiversity documentation<\/a>. <!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:1-->He said the faunal checklist will be an invaluable reference for <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/taxonomists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taxonomists<\/a>, researchers, academicians, <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/conservation-managers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conservation managers<\/a> and policymakers. <\/p>\n<p>The document comprises 121 checklists of all known taxa, covering 36 phyla. <\/p>\n<p>Endemic, threatened and scheduled species have also been included in the list. <\/p>\n<p>The minister said India is a global champion in biodiversity conservation, as reflected by the fact that &#8220;Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam&#8221; was the first major programme undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after winning a third term at the Centre. <\/p>\n<p>Yadav also highlighted the government&#8217;s initiatives, such as the International Big Cat Alliance to preserve biodiversity and species, and said the relocation of cheetahs to India is one such successful project.<!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=botpotime:1--><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/india-prepares-first-comprehensive-list-of-fauna\/articleshow\/111380924.cms\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India has prepared a checklist of its entire fauna, covering 1,04,561 species, becoming the first country in the world to do so.
