Jaishankar noted that the existence of Article 370 had negative consequences, fostering <!-- -->separatism<!-- -->, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.speakingtree.in\/topics\/life\/violence\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\" target=\"\" frmappuse=\"1\">violence<\/a>, and terrorism, posing security challenges for the nation.He said that it prevented the implementation of forward-looking laws in the region.<br \/>\u201cOne, it created an ethos of separatism, violence and terrorism. And this became a problem for the security of the entire country. Second, it prevented very progressive laws from being extended to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh at that point,\u201d he added.<br \/>On August 5, 2019 the government revoked Article 370 of the Constitution, thereby abolishing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and dividing the state into two Union Territories.<br \/>\u201cToday, you can see the benefits of the change that has happened,\u201d he said while responding to a question. Jaishankar is in Singapore on a three-day visit from Saturday.<br \/>Article 370 granted special autonomous status to the region of Jammu and Kashmir.
