{"id":87061,"date":"2024-07-03T19:51:11","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T19:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/03\/repeated-evacuation-orders-take-a-toll-on-already-weakened-gazans\/"},"modified":"2024-07-03T19:51:11","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T19:51:11","slug":"repeated-evacuation-orders-take-a-toll-on-already-weakened-gazans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/03\/repeated-evacuation-orders-take-a-toll-on-already-weakened-gazans\/","title":{"rendered":"Repeated evacuation orders take a toll on already weakened Gazans."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1050\" height=\"549\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2024\/07\/03\/multimedia\/03mideast-crisis-header-pbhk\/03mideast-crisis-header-pbhk-facebookJumbo.jpg?resize=1050,549&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Repeated evacuation orders take a toll on already weakened Gazans.\" title=\"Repeated evacuation orders take a toll on already weakened Gazans.\" \/><\/div><p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">An evacuation order by the Israeli military this week covering roughly a third of the Gaza Strip came as people there are less and less equipped to handle repeated forced displacements, after nearly nine months of war that have left tens of thousands dead and injured and put the territory at risk of famine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The order, which the United Nations has estimated affects about 250,000 people, was the largest since October, when about a million residents of northern Gaza were told to flee their homes, the organization <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/press.un.org\/en\/2024\/db240702.doc.htm\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt\u2019s an endless cycle of death and displacement,\u201d said Louise Wateridge, a spokeswoman for the main U.N. agency that aids Palestinians, UNRWA, in voice messages from central Gaza on Wednesday. \u201cPeople express here that they are losing hope, they are losing the willpower, faced with another forced displacement and absolutely no certainty of safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">On Monday the Israeli military issued the warning to leave large parts of the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, and by Tuesday <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/02\/world\/israel-gaza-war-hamas\/everything-is-difficult-here-gazans-describe-the-struggle-of-yet-another-evacuation?smid=url-share\" title=\"\">thousands of people had begun to flee<\/a>. The order was followed by a night of heavy bombardment in areas of southern and central Gaza. The order came after the Israeli military said Palestinian armed groups fired a barrage of roughly 20 rockets from Gaza toward Israeli cities on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The spokesman for the U.N. secretary-general, St\u00e9phane Dujarric, said Tuesday that his colleagues were \u201cdeeply concerned\u201d about the impact of the order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cPeople are left with the impossible choice of having to relocate \u2014 some most likely for the second or even the third time \u2014 to areas that have barely any spaces or services, or staying in areas where they know heavy fighting will take place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The order covers more than 90 school buildings, many of which have turned into overcrowded shelters as people run out of places to stay, along with four medical facilities, Mr. Dujarric said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Among them is the European Hospital in Khan Younis, where many were sheltering and hundreds of patients were being treated. After medical staff, patients and displaced people fled the hospital, the Israeli military said on Tuesday that it was not necessary for people to leave it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The International Committee of the Red Cross said Wednesday that the hospital was no longer functioning because so many staff members had left.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Though many people in the evacuation zone have made the decision to flee fonce again, relocating <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/02\/world\/israel-gaza-war-hamas\/everything-is-difficult-here-gazans-describe-the-struggle-of-yet-another-evacuation?smid=url-share\" title=\"\">becomes harder and harder<\/a> as the war drags on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIn terms of people\u2019s ability to move, it\u2019s been eight months of war, people are extremely fatigued, they\u2019re exhausted, they\u2019re malnourished,\u201d Ms. Wateridge said.
