Ludhiana: The officials of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) are on their toes preparing for the 37th Inter-Varsity National Youth Fest 2023-24 under the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) which will kick off on March 28.
Notably, this is the first time that the Inter-Varsity National Youth Fest is being hosted in the state.
V-C Satbir Singh Gosal said, “It\u2019s indeed an honour to host this prestigious academic event at PAU and we are all working collectively to make this celebration a memorable one.”
Around 2,500 students along with 400 officials from over 118 universities from 8 zones of India (east, west, north , south, central, north west, north east and south east) are expected to reach PAU.
The first team is likely to arrive on Monday and hostels UG of PAU, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, SCD Govt College, and Govt College for Girls, and adjoining schools like Partap Public School, and GRD Academy have been vacated for their accommodation. Meanwhile, the officials will be provided lodging facility at the guest houses of PAU, CIPHET, ATARI and Gadvasu. A food court will be established outside the office of the director of students’ welfare.
“The transportation firm which will look into shuttle service has deployed around 25 cars, 10 minivans and around 15 buses,\u201d said Nirmal Jaura, director students\u2019 welfare, PAU, who is also the organising secretary of the fest. Notably, PAU has hosted north zone inter-university youth festivals in 1995, 1998 and 2016.
Event Line Up<\/span>
The students who have bagged first, second and third positions in literary, dance, fine arts, musical and theatrical events in zonal competitions will compete in the national level events. The cultural procession of the participating students will be flagged off from Dr A S Khera open air theatre at 10am on March 28. On the following day, various competitions including one-act plays, classical dance, group song Indian, classical instrumental solo, collage making, poster making, clay modelling and quiz (preliminary) will be held at 5 different venues in the university on March 29. The other venues include Dr Manmohan Singh auditorium, Pal auditorium, Wheat auditorium, Dr D S Dev examination hall.
On March 30, one-act play (remaining teams), folk orchestra, western vocal solo, light vocal solo, classical vocal solo, cartooning, mehandi, rangoli and elocution contests will be organised. On March 31, folk tribal dances, mimicry, skit, mime, group song western, quiz (final), classical instrumental solo, western instrumental, spot painting, photography, installation and debate will be conducted. The valedictory function will be held at the Open Air Theatre on April 1.
\u201cWe will leave no stone unturned to make the event a super success and an unforgettable experience for all attendees. To ensure fair play, a jury of appeal has been formed and the registrar of PAU has been made its convener. Besides, three observers will be deployed by AIU, including a vice-chancellor, director students’ welfare and a registrar from other universities, to keep an eye,\u201d said Jaura.
Vishal Bector, associate director (institution relations) and co-organising secretary of the fest said, \u201cPAU IT team has developed a dedicated portal for online registration of the participating teams. Eight counters will be set up for on the spot registration and document verification.\u201d
He added, \u201cPAU is excited to host national talent coming across the country. Contingents of over 40 and 50 students from noted universities are participating. The logo for the event made by Satvir Singh, supervisor of cultural activities at PAU, resonates with the festival\u2019s overarching theme, \u2018HUNAR \u2013 Harvesting National Talent 2024.\u201d<\/div>\n
